Backup, export & import

Export a readable medication list or history, and back up or restore all your PillBox data.

Export your medication list

To share a readable list of your current medications:

  1. Go to the Profile tab.
  2. Tap Export Medications.
  3. The iOS share sheet opens. You can send it by email, save it to Files, or share it any other way.

The export is a plain text file you can read in any app.

Export your dose history

To share a record of past doses for the active profile:

  1. Go to the Profile tab.
  2. Tap Export History.
  3. Use the share sheet to send or save it.

Both exports cover the active profile only.

Full backup and restore

PillBox can back up and restore all data across all profiles in one file.

Settings screen showing the Configuration section with Export Configuration and Import Configuration options
Export and Import Configuration live at the bottom of Settings.

Create a backup

In Settings, tap Export Configuration. Save the file somewhere safe — like Files or iCloud Drive.

Restore from a backup

In Settings, tap Import Configuration and choose your backup file.

Warning: importing a backup replaces everything. All current data — all profiles, all medications, all history — is deleted and replaced with what's in the backup file. This cannot be undone.

Before importing, export a fresh backup first if you want to keep your current data.

Keep exported files private

Exported medication lists, history files, and backup files can contain private health information. Be careful where you send or store them. Treat them the same way you would any personal health record.
